'Inception,' 'Fast Five' and 'Star Trek' Returning to IMAX For One Week

Starting today, 'Inception,' Fast Five' and 'Star Trek' are returning to IMAX screens around the country for one week only. For only $7, you can catch these three blockbusters on the big big-screen as part of AMC Theatres' IMAX Big Movie Week. That's a helluva lot cheaper than most first-run IMAX movies, so go watch those dreams collapse, tires screech, and James T. Kirk get it on at warp speed from now until Oct. 6. These three films were previously shown in IMAX, but never for the low price of $7 per ticket. Not that any of these films need an extra boost at the box-office: 'Fast Five' grossed $609 million worldwide when it was released in April, 'Inception' racked up $825 million in 2010, and 'Star Trek' grossed $385 million in May 2009. Israeli actress Ayelet Zurer is positioned to switch Julia Ormond in Guy Of Steel, playing the role of Lara Lor-Van (Also called Superman's mother). No explanation remains given returning-minute casting change but Zurer is predicted to begin filming now. She's formerly came out in Serta Brown's religious potboiler Angels & Demons in addition to carried out Eric Bana's wife in Steven Spielberg's Munich. This time around around she'll be cosying around Russell Crowe, who plays her Kryptonian husband Jor-El.While TF want to crack an account about how precisely a quick alteration of a Superman movie usually happens in the phone booth, we really shouldn't dishonour Supes' dead relatives.Even if we feel Kal-El would probably handle the joke a lot better than a specific orphaned billionaire everyone knows.

Lionsgate Really Looking Forward to the Release of 'The Hunger Games'

An opening weekend box-office take of $26.5 million doesn't sound too bad, right? So for Lionsgate to announce in an SEC filing that it's lost $40 to $50 million in cash flow for the quarter comes as a bit of a surprise... Oh, wait: that $26.5 million represents the opening weekends of 'Conan the Barbarian,' 'Warrior' and 'Abduction' combined? Ouch. (Also, per Deadline, it appears this is a calculated move in an effort to sell Carl Icahn's nearly 20 million shares after Icahn's takeover bid failed.) On the brighter side, at least 'The Hunger Games' isn't too far away. [Deadline] Photo: Bruce Talamon/Lionsgate Related Video

Academy awards: Academy Works Out In Pressure For Moneyball, But Could It Be A Best Picture Contender?

Go having a touch of suspicion, but Saturday evening’s “official” Academy member screening of Moneyball (which arrived an extremely respectable second in the boxoffice a few days ago with more than $20 million)appeared to attract probably the most passionate Acad crowd since last May’s packed Night time In Paris — a minimum of knowing by a number of unrequested reactions e-mailed in my experience by Academy people attending. One referred to it as being “as crowded because it will get,” while another authored, “I just visited the Academy screening of Moneyball, also it was packed! Virtually filled besides a couple of random open seats.” The make-from everyone else was referred to as “older than normal, and lots of new faces” by another member attending as “definitely over the age of I'd have expected, but there is great reaction through the film and large applause in the finish for Kaira and Jonah.” Another opined that “the lighter moments performed well, which you may already know is definitely telling. The couple of jokes were taken care of immediately well. There is warm applause in the finish. But personally I gauge baseball movies, very couple of I've ever NOT loved, through the emotional swelling I recieve during my throat at least one time within the movie. I didn’t have that here.” I'd state that’s since this is a clear, crisp and coolysavvy film much more about thebusiness of baseball than other things. This individual also wondered whether The new sony will move it intothe Golden Globes comedy category despite the fact that it's most likely perceived more like a drama. “If it’s a comedy, which means Pitt is really a lock for the best Comedy actor,” they stated. I posed the question to some consultant for that film (who known as the Academyscreening a “home run”) who stated they didn’t think so, it hadn’t been talked about, but “I can’t imagine it.” On the other hand, this past year another The new sony flick having a close Pitt relative, that being The Tourist, was shoehorned into comedy and also got three key nominations. Who knows the twist and turns of those things, particularly this at the start of the growing season. Producer Scott Rudin, that has two other films likely competing within the drama groups (The Lady Using the Dragon Tattoo andExtremely Noisy and extremely Close) may want to try to spread the wealth Globes-smart. You never know? I cantell you Moneyball isaLOT more amusing than TheTourist, and that i observed a number of laughs after i first viewed it in a La-area theater Sunday evening for again. Despite the fact that these Academy tests aren’t a scientific barometer of the film’seventual Oscar chances, they may be helpful, specifically in gauging Academyvoter curiosity about even seeinga contender. It’s rare to determine the Samuel Goldwyn theater in Beverly Hillsides completely full in the officialscreenings, but Iimagine people are depriving for somethingimagined to become “awards worthy” at this time and stormed the doorways looking for one Saturday — especially since reviews happen to be so great, by having an astounding 94% fresh score at Rotten Tomato plants along with a nearly perfect 97% among top experts. It doesn’t get a lot better than that.Moneyball, nevertheless, you define it, is clearly a Best Picture contender at this time, and Pitt and JonahHill would appear to become top challengers for acting nods. Searching in the upcomingAcademy screening agenda for October there isn’t a great deal of Best Picture fodder being proven except possibly Acad Favorite and Kaira Pitt friend George Clooney’s The Ides Of March in the Sunday matinee on October ninth. Other October official tests with any potential whatsoever include 50/50 next Saturday mid-day, Pedro Almodovar’s language hopeful, Your Skin My Home Is on October 8 and then within the month some more compact “maybes” like Margin Call, Martha Marcy May Marlene, Constantly and Anonymous. Nearly all films being given to the Academy membership are game titles like Dream House (a horror film not really being tested ahead of time for experts), Margaret (postponed 5 years and lastly getting launched), Gem Jam Twenty, Kevin Cruz’s self-distributed Red-colored Condition, Dirty Girl, horror remake The One Thing, Real Steel (which does boast a surprisinglyterrific kid performance from newcomer Dakota Goyo), Vital’s musical remake Footloose, nearly right to DVD Trespass, the Steve Martin-Jack Black-Owen Wilson watching birds comedy The Large Year, Oranges and Sunshine, The Ladies around the sixth Floor and also the lengthy-gestating The Rum Diary with The Actor-brad Pitt. It’s unlikely some of individuals will elicit exactly the same wanna-see factor as Moneyball did a few days ago in the Academy. The large real question is whether this baseball movie will go where couple of others have , in to the Best Picture selection.

Astronomers Uncover Real-Existence Tatooine

This just in from space: The lately-discovered planet Kepler 16b already features a movie-friendly nickname because of the astronomers who think it is: Tatooine. Like it's the first planet that earthbound stargazers have ever found which orbits two suns -- similar to Luke Skywalker's home world in 'Star Wars.' "Reality has finally taken track of sci-fi,Inch mentioned Alan P. Boss in the Carnegie Institution, an connect in the research team that found the completely new planet, inside a press conference yesterday, in line with the NY Occasions. Much is made of the hyperlink between reality and sci-fi throughout Thursday's announcement at NASA's Ames Research Laboratory in Mountain View, California. Really, John Knoll, an obvious effects supervisor at Lucasfilm's Industrial Light & Miracle who done several 'Star Wars' movies, was available in case and shown a clip from 'Star Wars: Episode IV - A Completely New Hope' that signifies Tatooine's famous binary sunset. 'Star Wars: Episode IV - A Completely New Hope': The Binary Sunset on Tatooine In line with the astronomers -- who made the invention via NASA's Kepler spacecraft -- Tatooine is most likely a ball of gas and rock that's about how exactly large Saturn. It's 200 light-years away, inside the Cygnus constellation. The Two suns will be different dimensions, and are both a lot more compact than our sun. Tatooine is about as definately not the center of its pv system as Venus originates from our sun. Our planet orbits the pair of suns once every 229 days. The Two suns spin around each other every 41 days. The invention of Tatooine is forcing astronomers to re-think their ideas of techniques planets form and obtain stable orbits, since Kepler 16b is two occasions as close to its two suns as earlier models had predicted. Scientists have found huge levels of binary star systems, while not to date they've confirmed the existence of a planet turning about the subject. Weather-wise, Kepler 16b is closer to frigid Hoth (of 'Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back') than for the sweltering desert arena of Tatooine as described with the 'Star Wars' saga. The shifting suns cause rapid and dramatic versions in temperature, that could vary from minus 100 to minus 150 levels Fahrenheit within days. Lucasfilm's Kroll made an appearance not disappointed with this discrepancy. "Again and again we view the science is stranger and weirder than fiction," he mentioned. "The data about this discovery provides provocke dream bigger." [NY Occasions via EW/PopWatch] Follow Gary Susman on Twitter @garysusman. Photo Credit: AFP/Getty Images
